hip music at camp was very similar to youth camps in the states: high energy, high involvement, and a whole lot of fun. The Brazilian church also uses a lot of choreographed dancing in their worship . . . don't know how well it would go over in the States, but it can be very moving (no pun intended). During the final evening service of the week, the power went out during our worship time. Guitars, bass, faded out .. . all that could be heard was a beat and some muddled voices. It was very dark. But then, an amazing sound arose . . . I've never heard such loud and beautiful singing in my life. In the middle of the pitch blackness, voices and hearts rose to the Lord of lords through a song called "the mark of promise." It was one of those moments when God was really all that COULD be focused on. . . and I was reminded that this Brazilian Church is alive and well, and passionate about their Savior.
